What the work covers

From a single prep consultation to a full imaging department.

01

On-set DIT and imaging department

Holding the look on the floor.

  • Live grading in Pomfort Livegrade — ASC CDL over the show LUT, per camera and per setup
  • Signal chain design and build: 12G-SDI and quad-link routing, LUT boxes, genlock and timecode
  • Exposure and monitoring for the DP — false colour at the true EI, SDR and HDR together where needed
  • LED volumes: wall calibration, camera matching, genlock and shutter alignment

02

Dailies lab and data management

Verified offload, colour-managed transcode, same-day deliverables.

  • Offload and verification with checksums and ASC MHL manifests — Silverstack Lab, Codex Device Manager
  • Three verified copies minimum before any card is reformatted, ARRIRAW HDE where the show uses it
  • Colour-managed transcode carrying the on-set CDL and show LUT to every deliverable
  • VFX pulls as OpenEXR with agreed handles, plus LTO archive in LTFS with restores tested

03

Colour pipeline and look development

The prep that decides what a show looks like.

  • Colour pipeline architecture — ACES or a camera-native path, one point of truth for the look
  • Camera matching across bodies and manufacturers, corrected in prep
  • Show LUT and LMT in Resolve or Baselight — .cube, CLF or ARRI Look File, versioned cart to grading suite

04

Display calibration

Calibration of the displays decisions are made on — by measurement.

  • Targets set to the deliverable: Rec.709 SDR, P3-D65 PQ/HLG HDR, DCI-P3 for theatrical
  • Reference-grade probes with display-specific profiling
  • A verification report per display: greyscale, EOTF, dE2000, gamut, sustained versus peak luminance

05

Workflow design and consultancy

Prep-phase architecture for how images and data move.

  • Format and codec strategy costed in data — sensor mode to terabytes per day, into storage and archive
  • Two renderings carried at once — on Ripley, monochrome and desaturated colour held in step from cart through dailies
  • Data management and redundancy: 3-2-1, near-set storage and network sizing
  • Workflow document, naming conventions, checklists

Tools

Written in-house, when the tool did not exist

Part of consultancy is building the missing piece rather than working around it.

Frame-It!In use

Pixel-accurate framing charts, generated per format.

A macOS application that builds framing charts correct to the pixel for every extraction a show is carrying. On Gladiator II it turned formats added mid-schedule into finished charts inside the time actually available.

KinetiXIn beta testing

Accelerated transfer for camera original and dailies — an alternative to Aspera.

Moving a shooting day's material between unit, lab, editorial and post, at distance, without a per-seat licence standing between a production and its own footage.

KineControlIn development

Camera control from the cart.

Parameter control across the cameras on a multi-body show, from where the images are already being watched and graded.
