KineKontrol

KineKontrol Privacy Policy

  • Version: 2.0
  • Effective: 7 October 2026
  • Controller: Darsa Digital Limited ("Darsa Digital", "we", "us"), company number 12426698, registered in England and Wales
  • Address: Denton House, 10 Montpelier Avenue, London W5 2XP
  • Contact: privacy@darsa.digital

1. In short

  • KineKontrol collects nothing about you. It has no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising, tracking or cookies of ours.
  • There is no account, and we run no server. The App never sends data to us.
  • The App talks only to cameras on your local network, and to Bitfocus Companion there if you turn its server on.
  • What it keeps stays on your device, unless you export or share it.

2. What stays on your device

  • Camera roster: each camera's name, address, brand and colour.
  • Camera logins: kept in the system Keychain, synced by iCloud Keychain to your own devices on the same Apple Account where it is on. Never written to the App's files, except sealed in a backup you choose to include them in (section 3). Removing the camera deletes its login.
  • Workspace: tabs and tiles with their settings and cameras, gangs, Notes text, control-surface bindings and display preferences.
  • Lens libraries: lens data you save, per lens or camera.
  • Saved Workspaces and backups: files you save in Settings, in the App's folder (in Files on iPhone and iPad).
  • Snapshots: saved camera settings, including any slate fields the cameras reported.
  • Learned camera behaviour: what each camera model and firmware accepts or refuses. A camera that reports no model or firmware is remembered for the session only.
  • Stills: frame grabs you take, saved as image files in the folder set in Settings (by default Pictures › KineKontrol Stills on a Mac, the App's folder in Files on iPhone and iPad), unless you turn saving off.
  • Perceptual Trim tables: tables you measure. Footage you load for a measurement is analysed on the device and not copied.
  • Preferences: app settings and window sizes.
  • Support log: only while you turn it on in Settings › Debug: the messages the App exchanges with your cameras (their settings, names, serials and network addresses, never passwords), up to about 10 MB. It also records the actions you take in the App while it is on (the control, the value sent, the cameras and what they did); text you type is noted only as edited, never its words. It stays on this device until you delete it. An export is encrypted so that only we can read it, and reaches us only if you send it.
  • Camera web pages: the system web view may keep a camera page's cookies and cache, as a browser would.

Live camera data (record state, timecode, exposure, lens, media, battery, identifiers) is held in memory while the App runs. Your device backups include the App's data; those are between you and Apple.

3. Workspace files you share

An exported .kineKontrolWorkspace file carries your tabs and tiles, their settings, gangs, Notes text, control-surface bindings, the workspace's scrolling and grid size, and the network addresses of the cameras its tiles use, with each camera's letter, name and model. It does not carry your roster, logins, the App's other settings, lens libraries, lens tables, snapshots, learned behaviour or Perceptual Trim tables.

A .kineKontrolSnapshots file carries the snapshots you export and the letter, name, model and address of each one's camera.

A .kineKontrolBackup file carries your Workspace, camera roster, snapshots and the App's other settings. It holds camera passwords only if you include them, which needs a backup password you set: they are then encrypted with a key derived from that password (PBKDF2-SHA256, AES-256-GCM), and without it they cannot be read, by us or anyone. Send the password separately from the file.

Treat these files like any document with production information in it. Wherever you send them, that service's own policy applies.

4. Network

The App connects directly from your device to the cameras on your local network, with no relay and nothing of ours in between, and signs in where a camera asks for a login. A camera's own web page opens inside the App or in your browser; links leading elsewhere open only if you follow them. Simulated cameras run inside the App and use no network.

Camera connections are not encrypted, so others on the same network may see or control the cameras. Keep camera networks private.

Finding cameras. The App looks for cameras only while the Cameras window is open, on the networks you allow, and never in the background. It lists only cameras, and keeps nothing it finds unless you add it.

Companion. Off until you turn it on in Settings › Companion. Then the App shares your cameras' names, letters and states and your tabs, tiles and their values with Bitfocus Companion on your local network, and takes its commands; by default only from software given the pairing code shown there.

Local Network permission. iOS, iPadOS and macOS ask for it; without it the App cannot reach cameras. You can change it in system Settings.

5. Subscriptions

Apple handles purchases, payment and refunds under its own privacy policy. We never see your payment details or who subscribed; App Store Connect gives us anonymised, aggregated sales reports. The App asks the App Store on your device whether your subscription is active, and keeps the last answer and the latest date it has seen on the device, so it works without a connection until the paid period ends; none of it is sent to us.

6. When you email us

We receive what you send: your address, name and any attachments. We use it only to answer you, on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing support, and delete it 24 months after the last message. Our email is hosted by Google Workspace, which may store it outside the UK under the data-transfer safeguards UK law requires. Please redact production details covered by an NDA.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and, in the EU and EEA, the GDPR, you can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, or object to its use. Data on your device is already yours to view or delete; for the emails we hold, write to privacy@darsa.digital. Billing data is Apple's. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data-protection authority.

8. Children

KineKontrol is a professional tool, not directed at children.

9. Changes

The current policy is under Settings › About. If the App ever starts collecting or sending data, this policy will say so before it does.
